back to school!!! Israel

Yippie!!! Today i just applied for MCAD. It's basically a professional certificate for programmers. I thought i'll be certified first before looking for a job so at least i'll be more prepared to start work. I applied at New Horizons centre and actually classes started 2 days ago (monday). And they were kind enough to let me start midway and they were even kinder to have an instructor do make up classes for me..hehe..all in all, the cost fees are about 5.4k but the government(under the CITREP scheme) pays most of it so in the end i'll pay 1.9k. And the best part is the last class is on Oct 22nd!!! That means it's almost just 2 months only!! Coz i expected it to end in december since i applied late. And it means i'll get to work earlier too!! My parents would be happy about that. They've been wanting me to start work since i graduated 3 months back but i keep delaying because i started to do some website projects and now, getting certified. haha..well, hopefully this certification would mean a better starting job because that's the reason i took it in the first place! But of course tomorrow would be my first day of school and classes are 930am to 530pm monday to friday. That means i have to go for classes until this friday. And i have 1 week break, then i go for the next week of classes and continue on the 1 or 2 weeks break until i finish.

Ok anyway there is this person who suddenly messaged me on ICQ a few days ago..this person kept typing in some archaic language i didn't understand. And i wondered why this person kept bothering to talk to me in the first place. Then today i decided to find out. I cut and paste the sentence and put it in google and did a search. It turned out that the language was Hebrew! So i decided to use an online translator so i could talk to her in hebrew. And it turned out that this person is a she and she is only 8 years old!!! wah piang..i wonder what happened man..either she is some rich kid in Israel or what. Because what i know of Israel is not many ppl have internet access i think. Oh well, after i told her i was a guy and 3 times older than her, she stopped replying me..hehhe..anyway, there goes a funny individual.

bbq, life

Ok i just got back from half-a-days worth of activity. At 3pm i had a tennis game at john larson's place along with Andrew. Too bad no one else came to play tennis. My friend who was supposed to come didn't come and didn't pick up the phone when i tried to call him...grrr..next time i had better check with him the day before whether he's still coming. So from 3-5 me and Andrew played tennis. We had a very fun time. And about 4pm, John came to play abit. He's into squash and so seldom plays tennis. He was saying that tennis is quite a fun game to play, which i agree.hehe..for squash i feel you're in that small room only. So if you're claustrophobic, you might have a problem.

At 5pm, we decided to head down to the squash rooms and check out whether the rest of the people are playing. Apparantly they (gary, boonleong, john) hasn't started yet, and so the 2 of us started to play squash. We played squash for about 15 mins. He brought 2 squash racquets so we could play. And i told him he had to change his grips coz they were kinda worn out. So if you used it for a while, your whole hand would be black...like what happened to me when i used it. Then i had to wash my hand to get rid of all the black stuff..haha. And after that we decided to go swimming..jeffrey was swimming alone so we joined him...and junjie was just sitting on the bench looking around. At 6, it was bbq, but the food wasn't here yet. Anna was supposed to bring the food so we just started the fire and it took us about an hour to get the charcoal warmed up and have a decent fire. At 7pm, the hotdogs and mushroom kebabs were barbequed as we awaited the arrival of the chicken wings..hehe..in the end they came at 730 with us hungry and some thirsting for meat.haha..Then it was games time where a bowl was passed around and each person had to take out one skittle (like m&ms). The color of the skittle represented the question gary(the game master) would ask. So there are about 5 different colors with 3 persons picking the same color. It was a good time of reflection as one of the question was "You would know me better if i told you i....."...so the person who was supposed to answer the question had to fill in the blank. My question was quite simple but yet it took me some time to think. It was "if i had 24 hours left, what would i do". Personally i haven't thought what i would do during this period of time. But i decided that i would spend my final moments with my family members and after that contact all my friends who has made an impact in my life via email or sms. Finally i would have a good talk with all my current close friends and tell them how much they meant to me and the friendship we shared. Perhaps that would be what i'd do if i knew i had 24 hours left to live. Hmm...

fishies, lizard, church

Today was a simple church day with relatively less busyness for me. I'm thankful for that. This morning i had to play for worship together with joyce. Amabel was the worship leader today too. And i guess it was the first time amabel and joyce did their new roles (guitarist and worship leader).before that amabel was so nervous that she didn't feel like going up..haha...and joyce seemed cool..but i don't know lah. Anyway, i hope more people can pick up instruments and then start playing for church so our worship experience will be better and so i can focus on other responsibilities too.hehehe..

Yup, that lizard, i saw Mr Lizard again today while i was getting utensils for dinner. This time i had a good look of its tail. I got up close to 20cm away to examine the tail..haha..i wonder whether it was scared of me coz it can't move fast. Hmm..i really wonder how it felt as i went close. I know normal lizards scurry away once you're 2m away but this one looked calm as i was 20cm away from it. Hmm...poor lizard..maybe i should follow shimona's advice and scare it so the tail will drop off but then again, i don't want it to have a heart attack and die because it's already so defenceless and that means if it's scared it knows it can't run away. Imagine if you were crippled, you'll die from fright if a ghost were to appear. At least if you had legs you could run away but with no legs you're left with you and the ghost..haha...ok that's just an analogy, don't take it too seriously.

Oh yes, today one of my DVD interests came. He is a 67 year old man who is quite talkative and attends new creation church. He said the DVDs were interesting and that he had lent it to his friend too. Normally i lend people 4 DVDs each time but now i made an exception that he gets 8DVDs as he will lend 4 to his friend and then 4 for himself to watch. Well, basically he's interested to know more about SDAs but i think he thinks too highly of his pastor (Joseph Prince)..he likes dynamic preaching because he thinks its spirit-filled and shows that God is talking through him. But then i was thinking even "quiet" preachers can be powerful by their use of words. Hmm..i just feel that more and more people are getting attracted into the experience rather than God. What i mean is, ppl can come and listen to a speaker they like because his preaching is good and then not come because another "lousier" preacher is preaching. That's what is happening now you see. Alot of people come because they like the preacher's style more than they want to hear God's word. Well, of course there are some preachers that are really superficial in their content, but i'm not talking about them.

I also talked to TC today. And he was sharing one analogy that i found rather amusing. You know the well-known advice about the sea having other fishes? Well, the person with the fishing rod represents the guys and the fishies represent the girls. So when a guy likes a girl, he would cast his rod to that particular fish. But the problem is, the fish may not bite the bait as it has the priviledge to choose the best bait to bite. heehhe..yup, that's what he told me. Some words of wisdom from the grandmaster..hahaha

Ok this is the top view of the lamp.

Alright..my friend gave me this today..she got it from Jordan..at first i was like "wow you dug this up there?!?" but no..she bought it from those roadside stalls..hahaha..anyway it's extremely small..oh i forgot to say it's an oil lamp. Apparantly small oil lamps were common in bible times.

Finally i got a picture of Mr Lizard!! I was in the kitchen fixing myself a cup of milk and i saw it right in front of me. It moved a few inches up and stayed there. I then went to the living room to get the camera and took a few shots of it. I admit this pose isn't really good so i hope to get good ones next time. :)

AVP

Today i went to watch Alien vs Predator..hmm..ok for the sake of those who haven't watched it and want to watch, i went tell what happened. But i can say that it's generally a good show though i hoped that it was longer. Went with Shawn, Michelle, Gary, Nat and Adrian. Was a long time since i went out with church ppl for movies..hehe..and this sunday we'll be having a gathering at John's place! 4pm - 6pm is games time..that means i'll be playing tennis while some others will play squash and swimming.

Don't really feel like talking much..so i'll stop here..

A pic of the doubles table tennis gold winners for Athens 2004 Zhang Yining and Wang Nan. Earlier on Zhang Yining won against Korea (the girl who beat Zhang Xueling from Singapore) to win the Singles Gold(had her hopes on her after Li Jiawei lost to another Korean..so it's sweet revenge against the Koreans.hehe) and few days ago, Wang Nan was beaten by Li Jiawei..but unfortunately she didn't proceed further than that.

Jiawei lost...sighh....

SIGHHHHHH.....i'm SOOO disappointment by Jiawei's performance tonight..she lost in 4 straight sets!!! AHHHHH...i knew i had a bad feeling about it after the first set even though she won the first one. Apparantly the korean adopted a heavy defensive approach. Always undercutting the ball. I personally had those kinds of balls and it makes it very difficult to attack that way. That's why i wasn't surprised when Jiawei made alot of errors in her return. I think if time could go back, perhaps she could have changed her strategy by lessening the attacking and instead hitting short balls instead so that the korean has less chance to defend. Haiiiii...but we can't turn back time and what's done is done. Jiawei has walked exactly in the footsteps of her compatriot Jing Junhong. I can't believe it...this sucks...i'm so numb now...:(

Blah

Boy, we just had social night in church where we played captain's ball. Everytime we have social, which occurs about once a month, captain's ball would be the main game. And as usual we took out the short tables from the kindergarten and used them for the "keepers" to stand on. I thought it was good fellowship for the youth and young adults. There were also some people who played badminton at the courtyard but without any net. So now we have just these 2 games. Previously we also had a table tennis table but i was told that they threw it away since it was too well-worn. And i was thinking of getting one table next time. Probably have a mini fund raising to buy a table tennis table.

Aiyah, so sad, Li Jiawei lost today..sigh...and i hope that her next match she would win the other person from korea to get the bronze. Seems that she's following in the footsteps of Jing Junhong where she lost too. But i hope this time she will get the bronze medal. Really want Singapore to get something!

Ok, tomorrow i'll be going to the health screening in church. Tonight i saw them setting up the booths and the equipment and posters. I read that the posters are gotten from Health Promotion Board so it's going to be a very professional screening period where 100+ ppl would come to get their health checked. Well, actually i didn't intend to go but because one of my DVD interests is going, so i might as well go down and pass the next 4 DVDs to him. At the same time also get my health checked to make sure that i don't suffer from any illness unknown to me.

Today in church Eddie, my bodybuilding advisor, was in the toilet and he shouted "Trapezius"..i was thinking huh?...then he said that i had no traps!! Grrrr...well for those who don't know, having a trapezius means that shoulder muscle extends up to the neck so the neck doesn't look long. Hmm..i don't know how to explain..ok one classic example of a person who doesn't have trapezius is Maria Sharapova. Notice that there is almost a 90 degree between her neck and her shoulders. Yup, it's coz i haven't been training for weeks ever since i got sick. And i've lost weight too..grr...gotta start training already.

library, websites

//Warning: This post is looooooooong

Today was a productive day for me..i managed to finish all of the modifications required for the YWC website and also to fix a bug for the sermon upload of the jurong website...yes the jurong website is still in the works..sigh.my plan for this week is

1) The YWC project. Well just to explain. I'm doing a web development project for YWC. Firstly, i have to create an online form for people to register for health screening and people can choose the dates they can go for screening. The trick is to limit the amount of people that can go on each date. So the webpage has to do that automatically. Anyway, this is finished.
Secondly, setting up an online questionnaire for people to fill up instead of filling it on hardcopy..This saves paper. I've completed this already.
Lastly, i have to come up with various reports based on the questionairre answers. I haven't started on this yet and will probably start tomorrow.

2) The SAUM website. Someone asked me to create a page so that she can add, edit and archive news and events. Also, her husband (who also works in the union) knows abit about web development so she suggested i meet up with him or something to tell him how to edit the webpages himself. Well, currently the website has old information except for the news section now so it'll be great if someone else can do it. I hope that i'll be relieved off this responsibility too since i'll be getting a real job soon.

3) The Jurong Church website. It's mainly done but i'll have to add photos and a banner and some Q&A to complete the whole thing. The link is for the current one now and it was done by seow leng many years ago. I shall not reveal the location of the new website yet...hehe.

4) The ASCO website. The ASF(Adventist Students' Fellowship) committee met up yesterday and suggested to spruce up the site. Primarily is to make the forums active by having about 6 dedicated people going there and posting everyday for the next 6 months. I think it's a tall order but we'll see.haha..but anyway, there is not much to be done for this website...yet.

5) Come up with various posts of each librarian. (read on)

Hmm..basically i've listed all the 4 websites i'm currently maintaining....and before i get a job, i plan to hand over the SAUM website to Jeffrey or that guy from the union office. Also, the Jurong website should be done already and it only requires little maintainance. The ASCO website is done already too and i may hand it over to someone else. And last but not least, the YWC project would be finished but i'll be required to do minor modifications each month.

What i've learnt, as i reiterate now, is that if you have too many balls, it's tough to juggle them properly. This lesson i learnt from having 4 websites...haha..so you can say i learnt from the school of hard knocks.

Ok, the next thing is. I have 2 new librarians!!!!! They are Sheng Ming and Andrew!!!! Now how did i get them to be librarians?? I told Andrew that he should start serving in church in some way and so i suggested a list of ministries. Interestingly, he picked to be a librarian..hehe. And for Sheng Ming (btw, he's just started studying in NTU), he wanted to be a member of the library to borrow books on saturday. So i asked him, why not be a librarian instead so you don't have to pay the membership fee?hahaa...oh well, i told him that he should be more involved in church and so had to talk him into being a librarian ...hahhaha..oh well, hope everything goes well. So now i have 7 librarians including me. They are: Me, Andrew, Sheng Ming, Barbara, June, Tricia and Aggie. I'm glad i have hardworking and dedicated librarians who are willing to help out in the library at the last minute and now there will be 2 more. With this 2 more, i plan to settle the problems that i see in the library(of which the current librarians don't see). Well, i also had a revelation about why the problems still exist. It's because i micromanage!!What i should have done was to assign people different tasks and let them settle it themselves and report back to me. grr...i wish i had known this earlier...but i guess i didn't have the managaement skills to quickly solve the problem last time that's why. I think i got the revelation after watching the swearing in ceremony of the ministers of singapore last week. As some of you know, there is now a new position called Minister Mentor where Lee Kwan Yew holds now...so i'm going to come up with some new positions in the library too..hehee....so exciting.

After the dinner at the indian rest, we went for dessert at Funan centre. Then after that we went to Fort Canning Park...the climb up had me coughing.grr..i'm still not completely well.

the restaurant was dimly lit so i had to take a few shots to get a satisfactory one. This was one of the better ones.

It was evelyn's farewell dinner..so this was a group shot taken in Annalakshmi..she's leaving on wed.

And this is the K1s and K2s.. some can't sit still for 5 mins or if they sit still they will not sit properly as you can see like the guy in the yellow shirt..like he's lying on a hammock on some beach.

This is the class for lower primary kids..definitely more managable than the kindergarteners.

And this is pik yee's class..impressive hor?

Just took this pic today..went around taking pictures of classes during lesson study. So this is supposed to be my class..but i usually attend pik yee's class too.

ceremony, sleepless, missed meeting

Ok about time i blogged. Last night was one of the worst nights for me. I barely slept until 3am when i woke up and went to the bathroom. Then i lied down on my bed for i think an hour tossing and turning. Was really so powerless for doing such a simple thing like sleeping even though i got to bed late at 12 plus. Too many things were in my mind last night that's why. Well, because yesterday was one of the worst days i had too. Yesterday i received so many phone calls and what not that i felt like i was working as a full time operator. Even when i tried to have my afternoon nap i had 2 calls and 1 sms. Was lying on the bed for barely 20mins and i got frustrated by all the attention and decided not to take a nap. Back to last night's sleep, I felt that my mind was active but my body didn't want to have any part of it. I even thought of disabling my online messengers the next day so that i can really have some peace too. And yes, the spam getting in my pac net account is really irritating. I'm seriously contemplating on subscribing to a spam blocker that can filter the spam before it reaches my mail box. I know yahoo provides this service, i'm going to check whether pacnet has it too. If it doesn't then i may change my email address to yahoo. Then i woke up at 9am and thankfully i felt re-charged enough to run about my business for today.

And today is going to be another busy day. I just feel i have so many things to handle and just 2 hands and 1 brain. Told jeffrey last night that i was managing 4 websites and i realise that it's tough to juggle so many things at once. A loss of focus and effectiveness results and i'm having a tough time keeping up with all the requests to do something for each website. Anyway, the earliest one that i can let go is probably the union website. Hope to hand it over to jeffrey so i can be relieved of this burden. Had a mail early this week from someone working there to update the website with some info and i haven't replied to her yet.

Ok, to keep up with the latest developments, on Aug 12, the cabinet was sworn in. PM Goh is now Senior Minister Goh and SM Lee is now Minister Mentor(whatever that means). Was watching the swearing in ceremony last night and i was looking at the current ministers and wondering who will be the one that will succeed Lee Hsien Loong. Anyway, I believe we as a nation are really blessed to have such a wonderful team to lead the nation. We just take it for granted sometimes.

And yesterday was a bad day for my bible student too. The day before i tried contacting him through smses, phone calling his home and asking his sister to ask him whether he can meet on thursday. In the end, no one replied! I got frustrated and so didn't bother to do anything and assumed that there'll be no meeting. Then i got a phone call from elaine at 730pm and she was telling me sorrys for not informing me that Andrew would be meeting me at 7pm at macdonalds. I was like..what?!?!?!!..why didn't you tell me earlier? Ya she said she forgot about the whole thing..grrrr...so throughout the phone conversation i didn't know what to do, Andrew was innocently waiting at macdonalds for me while we're here talking about him...like how long will he wait until he leaves for home or gives us a call. Then elaine said she will go down and fetch him, so i said oh good, then u can give him a free ride home too. Then we hung up. Then at about 8pm she called me again and on my caller id, she was calling from home....wah piang...and asked me whether andrew has contacted me yet. grr.....she should have gone down then and picked him up i felt..but in the end she chose to stay home and wait, with the approval of her mom. Hopefully he got back early.

Taken from my balcony....absorb the height!!! My friend from Trinidad and Tobago was amazed when she saw it.hehe.

PM Goh

Singapore's 39th National Day. I think singaporeans have been too pampered already. We live in such a comfortable and safe place and we take it for granted sometimes on how lucky we are. Goh Chok Tong is leaving as PM and it's quite sad to hear that it's going to be another chapter on Aug 12 when Lee Hsien Loong takes over. I respect Mr Goh immensely, not because we have the same surname, but because of his attitude. Unlike SM Lee, his attitude is soft and not so authoritarian. It's amazing how Mr Goh has retained his soft personality through years of working with SM Lee. Lee Hsien Loong doesn't have the same attitude as Mr Goh. In fact, i think he's like SM Lee, quite authoritarian. Oh well, i think the next chapter of Singapore is one ruled by increased dictatorship. Yup, Mr Goh is stepping down. Hope he becomes number 2 when the new cabinet line up is announced. Watch out Singapore.

Even the aunties and uncles did their part by cleaning the courtyard.

The first impression i had was..."how come i look fat????"

Ok, so gary did work while nathaniel tried to multitask by talking on the phone and cleaning..and elaine..hai...wearing the N95 mask and supervising.

church cleaning 2004

Tonight was church cleaning night. I think we clean the church once a year so yup, it was high time we cleaned the church. For me i was assigned to clean the library. It was supposed to be me, aggie and barbara but so sad!!! Only me came to clean...hai..so sad...barbara said she had to go back for her brother's birthday and aggie didn't come to church for cleaning at all. Meanwhile, i'm still looking for someone to replace me as chief librarian..hahaa..i'm looking towards Andrew, but then he wants to start as a junior position first...hehehe..maybe after a while, then i can promote him to be chief!!!muahahahahah. Okok, anyway we had a fun time cleaning the church because we all worked together. After i finished with the library, i went around with my digital camera to take some pictures...so at least there's evidence that such and such a person came to help out!!!hahhaa..then i can send the pictures to pastor..hahaa...wah piang today so cranky...okok..talk serious. Yup, after the pictures, i went to the sanctuary to check out what they were doing. I saw uncle TC polishing the pews with some sort of lemon fragrance spray for wood. So he asked me to help too, so i took a bottle and a new cloth and i went to polish the right section of the sanctuary. Then weixiang came along to help me too...and after that, we went around polishing anything that's made of wood..i polished the notice board and the doors and even the social hall's wood panels. Yup, so when you go in the social hall next week, you'll be able to smell this lemon fragrance still lingering in the air. After that we went to the soon-to-be youth room which is the former pastor's office. I actually found the room very small for the number of youths that we have but then no choice lah, got to make do with what we have. So we just cleaned and vacummed the room. Some of the youth had to bring the gigantic vacuum cleaner up the stairs to vacuum the room. So after that was done, i went down, took some snacks..i think pastor bought alot of snacks and after that went home with my mom in a cab..what a day!

Mr Lizard, starhub

ahhh my blog didn't get posted!! and i have to rewrite everything
now...grrrr...okok breathe in..breathe out..

ok let's start with starhub..last night a starhub salesgirl called me
and wanted me to sign up for this $14 a month scv..i thought that was
reallll cheap!!! It was a very attractive offer because i was thinking
of signing up next time too but then i told her that until i get a job,
i won't sign up. So she gave me her number to make sure she gets my
business when i get a job..haha...well, i hope she's still working
then.hahha..

So when i was going to have my dinner, i took out a plate and went to
the rice cooker to get some rice. Just when i opened the lid, i saw Mr
Lizard!!!! He was there 1 foot away from the rice cooker and was at a
sideways position. He saw me but he didn't move you see. But i wasn't
freaked out by it because i know Mr Lizard is there 50% of the time i
take rice. I also wanted to take a picture of him but then aiyah, the
camera was in the living room and i didn't know whether it was charged.
And the whole time i was taking rice and when i closed the lid, he
didn't move at all!! Until i walked away then he walked away
too..hahaha..so cute!!!!! You should see him!!

well today i had a meeting with my boss(py)...seems that i'm going to be doing some hard core programming this week...and that means my job search will be delayed..hm..but then they said if i'll do it then it'll save them tons of time in manual data entry..hehee...well, yeah..help them lor....

anyway, i'm still having a slight cough with phlegm...the good thing about my phlegm now is that when i cough it comes out very cleanly so i can just throw it away with tissue..i remember last time i had to cough and cough and it's still inside.hehee..and the phlegm is a sticky dirty green..the initial period was very sticky and now it's not so sticky anymore....or should i say viscous...yup...i remember when i was in primary school i spit out my phlegm in those squatting wcs...and i tried to flush it down but it still stayed stuck to the porcelien...ewwwww....oh my why am i talking disgusting stufff...hmm....

anyway there's a very funny movie you can see here.
