prayer, contact

I finally got in contact with one of my classmates. I said before that the class is very quiet..the students don't talk to each other and there's very little interaction. So the opportunity came when class ended at 6pm and we were waiting for the lift to come(18th floor)...so that's where i made the first move. I found out that he was from France, i had thought he was from Mauritius...well i'm so used to meeting mauritians in NUS so i had naturally assumed he was too. And i found out he's working in a very big company and he's the project manager overseeing 50 people. Big right? And the weird part is, he looks and dresses like a person who just graduated from university. Most of the time i see him in jeans and long sleeve t-shirt. He's 35 and i thought he was 10 years younger...hmm..i guess it's his bald head that's why he looks younger. Anyway, there are 2 other ppl in class i haven't talked to yet..one is a china lady who i think is about 25 and the other i guess is a fellow singaporean about 24. Of the 4 of us, it's the french guy and I that are the most faithful for classes. The china girl sometimes come 1 hour after lesson starts and today she left 1 hour early. The singaporean guy is even worse, he comes much later but at least he stays until the end. Today he came at 1pm...so amazing..and also these 2 folks don't bring back their materials..they just leave it with the lecturer and i really wonder whether they understand what the lecturer teaches as they have missed some parts by not coming. Oh man..anyway, tomorrow is the last day of this module. That means i have 2 more modules to take and 2 weeks of classes before i finish this whole course.

Also i just got back from an evangelistic meeting. It's to prepare for the geoff youlden evangelistic meetings in november. I'm in charge of working with another person for the web-publicity. Other than that, i sense this is going to be very different from the previous seminars we had by peter jack and jon paulien. This time it's going to be a reaping event and geoff will be very direct in his presentation. So let's pray for the people whom we want to invite. The topics of his presentation will be out soon and it'll be easier to narrow down of the people who may be interested. Prayer is critical for this event!!!!

buses and trains

ok today i went to the jurong library straight after school. At first i couldn't find the IT section so i went all the way to the 3rd level when it was supposed to be at the 2nd. I had to ask the receptionist to tell me where i could find those IT books. So i went back down to the 2nd level. I decided to borrow 2 books. One is "Teach yourself C# in 24 hours" and the other is ".NET framework essentials". Yup...jargon right?hahha...but just treat it as a web technology. You may come across it while surfing some website that use this but you don't realise it.(for eg, the microsoft website)

Once out of the library, i thought i'll take the bus home instead of walking back to the mrt station. Not a good choice because i waited for 197 for about 10 mins before it came and after that waited for 154 for another 10 mins. I was at the busstop along the expressway while i was waiting for 154. And i noticed alot of big trailers going past. It was 7pm then and the road was quite heavy with traffic. It then gave me a sense of "smallness" or what you call it, that you're just a tiny speck in this whole world coz even if you're not around, there are other people and activities going on. It's not that i've not felt this way before, but sometimes i get reminded in such ways and that's the time when it's good to tell yourself that you're special because you are God's child.

library

well today i had a busy day. Full time in school but i left 20 mins early so i could go to REHAU company to talk about a potential project i could do. I reached there at about 6pm and then we talked about coming up with a CD ROM version of their product catalog. What's difficult is that i need to have a feature whereby if a product is select, then it will generate how many and which components would be required. So for eg, if the product is a 1 computer, then i have to make it generate 1 harddisk, 1 monitor, 1 cpu....blah blah..something like that. For them, they are selling roller shutter cabinets so the components are unfamiliar to me. Anyway, i thought i would be developing a web application but turned out there was some miscommunication and they decided to do the windows application(CDROM) thingy instead. Hm...i told them i'll get back to them next week if i want to take up the project. Most likely i'll take it up coz it's so interesting to learn new things and use it.hehe...and if i don't take up the project, they will take in some poly student for internship and make him do it. hmm.....
Tomorrow i'll have to go to the library to borrow some books...it's always fun to go to the library...especially now that the libraries are so modern...to me the library is like the central repository of information in the world or the big cauldron of knowledge where a person can absorb from..and with this fast paced IT world, it means new technologies are constantly coming out for us developers to play with. hehee..

Well, gotta sleep early so i won't feel so sleepy tomorrow..

sleepy in class

Today i had school (930-530) and thankfully i wasn't the only student in class. There were 4 of us. Based on the accents, i could tell one was Mauritian, one was PRC and the other Singaporean. The module for this week seems quite challenging and that means i'll have to be more serious in keeping up with the studies. In addition, today i had a very great battle with myself - keeping awake. Not that the teacher was boring but it was because i didn't have enough sleep the night before. So from 11am onwards, i started getting sleepy. Lunch was at 12 and we continued at 130. I thought to myself that if i was already sleepy before lunch, i would face a much greater war to stay awake after lunch - the thought of it scared me. So i came back to the room at 1 to and surfed around, hoping to fully keep myself alert to last another 4 hours. It was fine until 230 when i guess the full effect of the after-lunch syndrome came. And i was really struggling to keep my eyes open for the sake of the teacher. The thing about the class is that it's small so when i start typing or do mouseclicks, the others could hear. Furthermore, i was in the front row. So i tried to balance it out by talking online abit in order to keep me awake. The last time i remembered struggling so hard was when i was in JC and i knew that if anyone closed their eyes, the teacher would publicly wake him up. Well, i'm glad it's all over now and that i'm back in my comfortable home.

BTW, tomorrow i'll be going for a discussion with a company on their plans on developing a .NET application. I hope that i'm qualified for the job. grrr...i feel so green...

good samaritan

I had just read about a story in the straits times about a man who fell down in the rain and was left there for 20 minutes without any help. He was in Singapore Island Country Club when it happened and the surprising thing was nobody bothered to help!! Until 20 minutes after when a staff saw him. This immediately reminded me of the good Samaritan.

It's found in Luke 10:25-37. And i decided to read through the story again even though i've read it many times before.

This is my paraphrase. An expert in the law had asked Jesus.."what must i do to inherit eternal life?" Hmm..an expert in the law..i think it means a scholar who knows the Old Testament inside out. I don't know why he asked this question too. Jesus asked, "what do you think?"..then he said ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ This is actually what God wants us to do.
Then this expert continued to ask "who is my neighbor?" Maybe he wasn't really interested in people, so he was trying to ask for an answer hopefully to hear that it would be just a select few that would qualify being a neighbor. Perhaps even the fellow experts would be considered as neighbors only. But ultimately when the story is told, it turns out that everyone is our neighbor. Neighborliness is the practical expression of the principle of love for one’s fellow man.

So in conclusion, love to God(#1 priority!), and love to fellow man.(which can be tough, but we have to push ourselves and pray that we can).

Good night!

i had to post this pic...oh my..this picture is so sweet!!! Don't they look so sweet together!???!!! Aggie is the bible teacher of barbara btw. I just realised i didn't take a picture with Andrew..grr..

Revealing.....*drum roll*.....my faithful librarians!!!!!!! A more serious photo is at http://www.jurongsda.org/ministries/library.htm

Kids!!!!

Church day is over. We had a pastor from Thailand who came to Jurong to speak during sabbath school and also to preach during worship service. Though he wasn't so well-versed in english, still he managed to deliver his message such that it was beneficial for me. I thought that it was a very heart felt message that he spoke and i believe some others in the congregation felt so too. I also thought that this sermon was very different than other sermons we had. I felt relaxed as i listened to the sermon. I wasn't sleepy but i could listen attentively quite well. Hmm...anyway it was one of the best sermons of the year and it really lifted me up to be a more devoted christian in my private life.

At night we had lantern festival. It was by the kindergarten in church and so many people turned up. I was shocked at the number of parents(with kids) that came. It was an annual event and so it was one of the highlights of the kindergarten. I guess there were a total of 500 people there. And so we stayed back to help out. Jeffrey, pei fong, gary, shuqin, barbara, joyce and some others..and when they were all in the sanctuary for the event, we were told to set up the game stations. And i was asking "are we supposed to help out to be game masters?" I got a yes from shuqin..ahhhh..so last minute!! so impromptu(as said by peh fong)..and we had 30 mins to set everything up. So we chose our props and brought out small tables and chairs to the carpark. My station was about using the spoon and transferring 3 ping pong balls from one pail to another. It was meant to be a competitive game where 2 compete against each other. And i got barbara to help me give out the presents. After the event in the sanctuary, everyone got out and went for a lantern walk with the kids having their lantern brought from home. I guess they walked around the neighborhood. And for us, we were still setting up the stations and planning the games. This meant we had 10 mins for them to come back. When someone announced their arrival back to church, i looked to the main gate and i was shocked at the hordes of parents and kids!!! Ahhh!!! Reminds me of my days of being a relief teacher when i had a hard time controlling the kids. But thankfully the parents are there..hehe..however, it still was quite scary to see them come.

Initially i was able to get 2 kids compete each time, but as time went by, the kids were satisfied in being able to transfer the ping pong balls themselves without competition, so i just let them do what they want. It was quite funny too because since the stations were side by side and we had no barriers, so parents and kids were standing even in the middle of the game! It seemed like a marketplace. One parent asked me where was the queue. There was no queue!! So after that i noticed a queue started to form (finally!) and it became more organised that way. Can you imagine 2 kids playing the game and you have other kids and parents in their path?? I saw one boy who was holding the spoon with the ball on it and walking back so fast and suddenly stopped because an adult was "passing by". Thankfully he had fast reflexes..hhaa..But the kids loved it and so i just let them have fun. It didn't take a while for the prizes(pencils) to run out and so we had to take extra prizes(crayons) to give them. And the station on our right was pei fong's station and kids had to throw an inflatable rugby ball into a big pail. We saw him closing shop so after our prizes ran out, we closed shop too.hehe. And so after that i went to see how jeffrey was doing. His was a more ridiculous kind of game. Using toy spades and shells, the kid was supposed to use the spade and push the shell across half the width of the carpark around the chairs and come back. It was supposed to be a competitive game too with 3 kids. Apparantly he had managed to maintain order by keeping the competitive level going but when i came to watch, he seemed to have given up already and then the kids were allowed to do it at their own time and pace and come back to collect their prize(crayons). I helped out abit too in directing the kids in how they should play the game.

After that i went to gary's station. It was the golf station using miniature golf clubs to hit the golf ball into the overturned horseshoe. Each kid was given 3 balls to hit and his was more organised. At least the kids queued up and there was no scrambling or anything. So i helped him abit by putting the balls in the starting position. And after awhile, we closed shop as the lucky draw period was time..actually it was time for the family games to begin then the lucky draw. We had parents playing games this time but i guess i won't talk about it.

Well, all in all, i think it was a successful event by the kindergarten. Thank God for this success too and that i survived.

madonna, new friends!

I just got back from a tennis session. I thought i'll play tennis tonight as i've been studying almost the whole day and need to relax. Also i get a chance to make new friends too. I'm in this MSN groups thingy and so they organise regular tennis sessions everyweek and this is the 2nd time i've joined them. We had 2 courts booked and 8 of us turned up. The better players took 1 court and the rest took the other court(including me). So basically i had a good tennis session, though not the best because i felt that alot of my strokes went too far which made me quite frustrated. I've still yet to get used to a good stroke. But one thing is good, my serves are getting better such that there are more times when i don't hit the net. That's a result of having a ball tossed too far in front of you, so i gotta concentrate on my toss which i think is very important. Slowly i'll get to improve on my tennis skills as i practice. I hope to be able to play comfortably and that will be the time when tennis will be a big stress reliever. Anyway, we played from 8 to 10. It started to rain at 10 and it started to rain so we had to stop. Then 4 of us went to the bukit batok market to have dessert and talked until 11. That's when i got some advice about job seeking from a lady who's more experienced.hehe.. So now i'm back home.

Right now i'm listening to Madonna. Haven't heard her for quite some time so i decided to listen to her greatest hits. The few favourite songs i like are
  • Like a prayer
  • Papa don't preach
  • Who's that girl
  • La Isla Bonista
It really brings back the old days when those hits were popular then. If i'm not wrong it was in 1992. Anyway, i find that the songs now seem to be quite oversexed. I don't really listen to the radio now but the songs i hear from popular pop icons like Britney, Christina and the rest really leave some room for 1)cleaning up their vocabulary and 2)reducing some of those sexual overtones. But, i guess this won't happen as we're approaching the end of time and that means situations will get worse! Ahhhh..God help me.

thoughts

ok i can't believe it's wednesday. Time seems to pass by so fast and next monday i'll be back in school..grr...haven't really finished what i'm supposed to revise yet. I hope i'm able to catch up with most of it before class starts. And i've a feeling i'm going to be the only student for that module and if that's the case, then it'll be me and the teacher for 5 days straight! And that means i have to pay attention in class from 930 to 530!!!grrrrr..i can't bear the thought of it. I hope i'm not the only one in class.

Today i finally had a haircut..i've not had my haircut for almost 2 months and after the cut i felt lighter. I just like the feeling of being clean and light. And the next time i wake up in the mornings, i won't feel so messed up anymore..until my hair gets longer. In the morning i had a tennis session with my primary sch friend. And yeah, after tennis, i had lunch and then went to the barber. Well, i "dried up" by then so i didn't enter the barber shop sticky and all that.

Had my short little devotion in the morning. I was reading from "Welfare Ministry" by Ellen White and this quote is about how lay people (those not working full time for church) can still be instruments to win more souls to Christ
Paul set an example against the sentiment, then gaining influence in the church, that the gospel could be proclaimed successfully only by those who were wholly freed from the necessity of physical toil. He illustrated in a practical way what might be done by consecrated laymen in many places where the people were unacquainted with the truths of the gospel. His course inspired many humble toilers with a desire to do what they could to advance the cause of God, while
at the same time they supported themselves in daily labor. Aquila and Priscilla were not called to give their whole time to the ministry of the gospel, yet these humble laborers were used by God to show Apollos the way of truth more perfectly. The Lord employs various instrumentalities for the accomplishment of His purpose, and while some with special talents are chosen to devote all their energies to the work of teaching and preaching the gospel, many others, upon whom human hands have never been laid in ordination, are called to act an important part in soulsaving.

Hmm..most of the times i read Ellen White's books, she really has some stuff that really captures your attention and hits home. Sadly, some Adventists belittle her and think either she's meant to be read by "old folk" or that her writings are too difficult to understand. Nothing can be further from the truth. Her english is simple and easy to understand..but i guess the only difficult thing about it is because she quotes from the king james bible, otherwise it's readable by people who have gone through PSLE. And i understand that even non-Adventists find her writings a source of encouragement and strength. Even Paul Yonggi Cho (the founder of the world's biggest church) used Ellen White's "Evangelism" book as his guide in setting up small groups...oh well.

noodles, telemarketer

I just had a call from someone who said that i can go to delphi and collect a swiss designer watch worth $180 and a voucher for accomodation in phuket or ko samui for 4 i think.. On hearing that my defenses went up. Firstly, he didn't even introduce to me what's all this about and secondly, he didn't even call me by name. I was wondering it's one of those things where you go there and sit down for a 2 hour seminar before you really get your free gifts. I asked what this is about and he said that i had put in some forms while shopping in Giant, bugis, shopnsave and blah blah of which i couldn't remember that i had. Or was it my dad who just filled in my name instead of his? Anyway, i wanted to find out more, and i asked him whether it was a lucky draw. He then went on babbling for 2 minutes. I was amazed at how much he can talk..as if he was reading from a script and also amazed at his unnatural use of singlish. I'm getting used to the idea that telemarketers use singlish but his use of it was unnatural. Or maybe because i'm not comfortable with hearing it with his tone of voice. Anyway, he said i could come down and collect tomorrow but i said i can't and may collect it next week instead. He then asked for my name and i wondered how come he doesn't have my name..he then explained for another minute but basically i think what he was trying to say is that privacy is respected that's why he didn't have my name..ok nevermind i won't think too much into it. I'll just go there next week, look at the cruise exhibitions(he emphasized i didn't have to buy any packages), get my gift and head home or somewhere else. So much for surprises after my lunch.

Talking about lunch, i had a simple one today. Previously when i cooked noodles, i would crack an egg in it but then egg prices went up and that's why i couldn't find any eggs in the fridge. Oh well, i had to make do and instead of the egg, i added a tomato. So i had 2 packets of instant noodles, some chai sim(the green veggie) and the tomato. Yup, very simple but yet filling. Now i better get back to study..

the upper room

Just saw a sermon online by doug batchelor. Thought it was quite inspiring as it talks of the upper room. There were many incidents in the bible that happened in the upper room. I just realised that there were many ressurections that happened there. And the upper room can be said to be synonymous to prayer as that's where amazing things take place. It's just a reminder that i have to make sure i "go" to my upper room everyday.

blah blah

it's almost 11pm and i thought i'll write something before i head for an early night's rest.

Last night i slept late (1230am) and woke up early(730am) so i guess that's why i feel tired now. Also i'm having a very very very slight sorethroat. I hope it'll go away tomorrow. It's taking quite long to go away since wednesday. On wednesday what i did was gargle my throat with saltwater before i slept and i was much better on thursday. From thursday onwards i didn't gargle with saltwater anymore so i guess it took so long to improve until now.

Oh ya, i finally bought the sammi cheng collection. It's called Mi Century. Contains 2 CDs worth of songs which she sings in mandarin which is good as i don't understand cantonese. Also contains a VCD with some of her popular hits too. Paid only 20 bucks for it so i thought it's worth it. Sammi Cheng rocks!!!

Ok i think i'll stop here.

The enormous storm, seen here in a satellite image with its eye just south of the Alabama coastline, is also affecting Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. Thankfully my friend had fled 2 states up instead of staying. It sure is scary. I think if this hurricane would come to Singapore, we'll be gone.

Cat 4 Hurricane.

My friend just messaged me from Alabama saying there's a cat 4 hurricane heading towards him. It'll hit him tomorrow so pls pray for him that he'll be safe. he can't evacuate as the traffic is bad.

CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE:

With winds of 131-155 mph the storm surge runs 13-18 feet above normal. More extensive curtainwall failures with some complete roof structure failures on small residence. All shrubs, signs and trees blown down. COMPLETE DESTRUCTION of mobile homes. Extensive damage to doors and windows. Low lying escape routes maybe cut by rising water 3-5 hours before the arrival of the hurricane's center. Major damage to lower floors of structures near the coast. Terrain lower than 10 feet above mean sea level may be flooded as far inland as 6 miles. Minimum central pressure (944-920 mb)

Unreached people group

I was surfing around and i chanced upon an article that said this.

"Fifty-seven churches in Singapore already have adopted an unreached people group. The nation of Singapore has the highest missionary sending rate per capita in the world, with one missionary per 1,000 church members."

Hmm...perhaps jurong church can adopt an unreached people group too..hopefully next time..that'll be exciting.

calls

I just got back from lunch and it was sunny. The ground was dry and there was a cool breeze. The air smelled fresh too. Still, the temperature was abit on the high side. Nevertheless, i continued my way to the usual coffeeshop to have my lunch. Walked straight to the usual mixed vegetable rice store, and ordered 3 dishes, paid 2.50 and it was done. I couldn't believe it happened so fast. i think it was a record. Oh well, as i was eating i noticed on the next table there were 3 ppl reading newspapers. I presume it was the mom, dad and son. The son was about 14 yrs old i guess and had crew cut with those thick black glasses - typical chinese look. But i noticed some white hair sticking out of his head. I looked more intently. Those weren't white hair, it was needles! As he turned more to my side, i could see that some needles were stuck in front of his head too. Yeah i know what it was -acupuncture. But why here? I've never tried that and not known people who does but is part of the treatment that of waiting some time before the needles are taken off? It sure looked that way as all of them were reading chinese newspapers except for the mom who read straits times. Later on, i walked to the nearby 7-eleven to get a copy of the straits times. I looked at the price and realised it was 80 cents now. Ok that's something new. I hadn't noticed when the price had risen to 80 cents from 60 cents. I paid for it and walked back home. Then i took a light shower because of the sweat and now i'm typing away.

Just thought i'll post about what happened yesterday. I got 2 calls from strangers. Stories below are the summarized version. The first one called in the early afternoon. The phone rang and i picked it up.

Me: yyyeeelllooo. (saying in a weird way)
caller: Hello. Is that Sean?"
Me: Yes.
caller: Hi, i'm margaret and i'm calling you because you were recommended by Grace to help do our website.
Me: Oh yeah, it's you. I've been expecting your call.
caller: Yes. What's happening is i've just started a drama and speech centre for young children and i need someone to help me spruce up the website that we currently have.(she gives me the url)
(As she goes on talking, i typed in the url and checked the site. Wow, not bad for the design.)
caller: It's not fully done yet and so we just put it as under construction. So i'm wondering whether you can do it.
I'm not a design person and i guess i'll pass.
Me: Erm...i'm not really a design person as i focus more on the dynamic programming.
caller: BTW, how old are you?
Me: I'm 24.
caller: So you just graduated?
Me: yeah, 3 months ago with a degree in computing
caller: ok, so you were saying you can't do it?
Me: i'm not a multimedia person you see unless you want to have dynamic programming inside.
caller: oh i've got all the content already so it's not problem for you to include it in.
(Obvious that she doesn't know what dynamic programming is)
Me: Ok basically i don't do design, what i do is the back-end functionality. This includes contact forms, forums, event calendar, stuff that requres a database and photo galle..
caller: Oh we have lots of photos to be put up so that shouldn't be a problem.
Knowing that she didn't quite get it, i explained to her again.
Me: I can't do this but i can recommend someone to you that i think is quite good in design.
i gave phillipe's number and we hung up. Immediately i messaged him warning him of the call. After an hour, he messaged me on msn.

phil: Hey, so what did this lady want?
Me: oh she didnt' call you?
phil: nope
Me: well she wants someone to help her in her website design of a speech and drama centre for children
phil: oh perfect, my wife is a speech and drama teacher and i just finished a website for music therapy for babies.
Me: yeah u're overqualified. haha.
Conversation continues and i guess she hasn't called him yet...anyway on to the next call i got at 7pm as i was going to leave for a meeting at clementi central.

Me: Hellooo.
caller: Hi. Is this Sean? i'm diane from prudential,. Remember we met at the comdex fair at suntec?
(thinks through)
Me: oh yeah so it's you(must be hoping to get some time from me to give me a briefing of their programs)
caller: So are you free to talk now?
Me; er...for a few minutes.
caller: So how's your job hunt?
(Yup, i knew i was going to disappoint her by saying i was studying.)
Me: Well, i'm actually doing full time studying right now.
caller: oh what course is it?
(She goes on to ask me questions about my study)

caller: So where are you studying?
Me: Tiong Bahru.
caller: oh, maybe we could meet for lunch sometime then i can give you a short briefing of our financial plans.
Me: er...perhaps but i'm not really looking out for plans now as i'm not working
(At that point, i knew she would have a difficult time continuing the conversation but i was wrong. She continued with a whole bunch of stuff that i forgot. At the same time, i walked down the stairs, put on my socks and shoes, opened the door all the time listening to what she said and of course answering her questions)
Me: ok, i think i've to go now (got my shoes on and door open ready to go)
caller: ok then, i hope you'll do well and i'll call you next time
(just then, a thought flashed through my mind)
Me: Oh btw, do you play tennis?
caller: yeah! how did you know?
Me: oh i'm actually looking for people to play tennis with. Are you good?
caller: oh i play quite regularly but i don't know whether i'm good. so where do you play?
Me: NUS. You?
caller: at pandan valley.
Me: oh isn't that near pine grove?
caller: yeah it is. So where do you live?
Me: Sunset Way
caller: sunset way???
Me: yeah sunset way.(i was going what's up dude))
caller: i live in sunset way too!
(At this point was walking along the corridor and got in the lift. Thankfully i could still do calls in the lift. I don't know what those technicians did but previously i couldn't. I talked in the lift and it was quite echoy. It sounded like i was in the bathroom or something. I didn't want her to think like i was and wanted to get out quick)
Me: oh yeah, i live in 115
caller: i'm at 116
(I looked at where blk 116 was. After living here for years i was still unsure of the block numbers. I found it.)
Me: wow. Actually i'm walking there now.
caller: oh you're walking back?
Me: no i'm supposed to go to clementi central. Yeah, hey why not you just give me a call when you're playing?
caller: yeah sure we play normally on the weekends.
Me: oh ok, i'll be busy on fridays and saturdays so i'm only free on sundays. And don't purposely start a game because of me ok? Just do it at your own convenience.
caller: sure thing. will contact you then.
(So i guess she was happy as she believed that this kind of contact would ultimately lead to me signing for a financial plan with her. At the same time, i was happy too as not only have i found another tennis partner but also i could have a chance to reach out. Of course she didn't know my hidden agenda...hehe)

(I was trying to pack my bag, switch off the computer and find my clothes as she continued to talk away)

raining

It's pouring at my place now. This morning i managed to do abit of studying. I hope i'll be disciplined enough to continue on soon.haha..i can't have too much time wasted on doing other things as i really need to catch up with my studies. Also, lunch time is coming and i'm supposed to go out for lunch and at the same time buy today's newspapers. Hmm..if the rain continues maybe i'll just stay at home and cook my own lunch. Then afternoon i'll go down and get those papers. hmm...

insects

Ok just got back from eating "zhi2 cha4" with the some people i usually like to call "kids" like barbara, andrew, louis, tricia, truddy, jared, amabel, ben, jer, nicholas and junkiat. Hmm...we had a great time eating the good food and me being the biggest among them, i think i ate the most too. We only ordered 4 medium sized dishes and i had to finish the leftovers. Shoftly after, we started talking about animals and what we can and cannot eat. I then mentioned in the bible that we could eat locusts and grasshoppers and tricia was shocked..haha. here's the quotation

"All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. 21 There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. 22 Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. 23 But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest. "Lev 11:20-23

Yes, althought it's classified as clean, i don't think i'll want to eat it if i had a choice..hehe. I'd prefer to stick to my regular meal of mixed vegetable rice with chicken or fish.
I think after they finish with their Revelation studies, a class regarding biblical clean and unclean meats should commence. Hmm...perhaps i'll teach them or pik yee will coz i need to prepare and do research as i don't know some stuff.

Also, the church just erected a tentage that could provide the courtyard with some shade. Too bad it can't give us shelter from the rain. And i think it costs 20k buckaroos...that's alot for 2 pieces of cloth stuck near top. hai..but they said it was good material so i guess it's worth the money.

partly busy day

Listening to Sammi Cheng's music as i write this..she rocks!!!!

Ok i just got back.ok let me start from the beginning of today...

Morning, i played pizza tycoon 2..shucks i think i'm becoming addicted to the game. I think i need to cut down man...but it's really quite fun.. The only bad thing is that i cannot fastforward the game speed so gotta wait for some time. Anyway, after that, i prepared for bible study. The topic today was about the Sabbath and about why people worship on sunday and why the Bible says nothing about Sunday worship or whether Sabbath worship was done away with. Yup, to me it was easy to prepare coz everything is already registered inside my common sense already. Hm..what i mean? When i learn stuff, sometimes they are difficult but after a while, you get to understand the logic of it and its mechanisms(if applicable), so when you understand it, it registers in my brain as "common sense" so when i retrieve the information, it's easier to retrieve you see. hehe....anyway at 430 i went to jurong church to teach evelyn (church secretary) how to input events in the church website event calendar as we want to do a relaunch of the website this saturday. Basically most of the stuff is done just need to add minor advertisements and details. And i plan to complete it with whatever time i have left tonight before i sleep!!! ahhhh...
Ok after that i waited for Andrew to come for bible study at 620. So he had a few questions prepared for me to answer already and luckily i could answer them..haha...but as i said, it's all common sense already. I always tell Andrew, if he doesn't know much about the topic in the Bible, you can use logic too, though the explanation would not be that good. For example, he asked me whether it matters on which day we worship. The basic understanding is that God commanded it in the 4th commandment and even set an example to us in Gen 2:1-3. So the basis is there. And to draw an analogy, some wives can be very particular about the anniversary day. So it matters!!!!! Oh well, i'm talking beyond what i want to say...anyway, we had a good Q&A going on. I guess after that session he's become more prepared in answering his friends when they ask about the Sabbath. Yup, i also told him i'll email a more thorough history of the gradual change of the worship day and also some reasons why the 7th day is the Sabbath.

Ok, after that we had dinner together at jurong east coffeeshop. Then after that i rushed home to borrow my dad's car to deliver some DVDs to an interest. Luckily she stays 1 km away so it doesn't take too much time. I told her that i'll be there at 830 but i was 15 mins late. When i got to her house, she wasn't home and the bell wasn't working so i called her but she didn't pick up. So i thought i will knock on the door and shout whether anyone was home. And yes, someone peeked out from the dark and i guessed it was her daughter. Luckily, otherwise i need to come another time. So i gave the next 4 DVDs to her and got back the previous 4. And i think i said something i shouldn't have said. I told her to convey the message to her mom to be faster in returning it coz it was 1.5 months that she had the previous 4 DVDs. i didn't say exactly that lah but the idea was there.. then after that when i walked back to the car i regretted what i said..grrr...coz ultimately we want ppl to watch it and i think we shouldn't rush them. And somemore she was lending it to her friend to watch. Ah, this part i told the daughter saying it's ok for her to lend to her friends, but i added just be faster..grrr...ahhhhh...anyway hope that she doesn't create a fuss out of it..

yup, i said that i'll post a picture of my textbook..it's the one at the bottom. So thick right? But i don't plan to go through it so i borrowed another book which covers the same topics from the library. It's the book above it and it's highly recommended for preparation of exam.hehe..

OK!!! I better post something..it's been a long time since i lastposted. I am still amazed at the concept of blogging...i think it's agood outlet to vent your thoughts, emotions, whatever. Ok anyway, fridayi've a makeup class for my module last week as i didn't attend the first2 days. Not because i pon tang, but because i signed up for the courselate so i had to start on wednesday instead of monday. And the make upis compulsary for me in order to claim government subsidy of 70%. Andi've yet to even go through half of the material that has been taughtlast week..grrr...i've got such a thick textbook and not enough time. And next week there's going to be a new module starting soon and i dreadto see the textbook. I hope it's not going to be as thick as theprevious one. Here's my advice, for those who want to take a microsoftcertification such as MCAD, MCSD, MCSE, MCSA, pls at least have somerelated work experience or academic knowledge. For me i have a degree incomputing so it's not so bad lah.
Ok, so my plan for today is this..morning: play computer game(pizza tycoon 2)afternoon: study!!!!!!(must finish at least 100 pages)evening: call up my dvd interests.(think i've neglected them forweeks..argh!!!)..and study!!!!
ok the timetable looks good...i'll better start on it now and startplaying!!hahaha

health results, ice cream, library

HEY! Well, today i guess i had a good Sabbath. My most proud time was when i finally managed to come up with a list of different library responsibilities last night. And this afternoon we finally had a library meeting after months of not meeting up. So i presented to the librarians the available "job" positions. For example, there is finance, purchasing, marketing and library duty coordinator.ya, sounds like a business right?hahaa...well i thought it'll be more effective if we have it this way rather than me micromanaging it. And now that Andrew is in the picture, that means we will have more help! hehe..suprisingly Barbara said she wanted to be marketing so she can do annoucements on stage..wah, i see her so shy type but then didn't know she had a hidden talent.hhaa..Andrew volunteered to be marketing too but he'll be doing the quarterly library newsletter and the printing of the library cards. So yup, it's going to be an exciting time for the librarians from now on..hehe.

Close to dinner time i went with Shawn, nicholas , barbara and cara to go buy ice cream..shawn bought those normal stick ice-cream. I think it's lime flavoured but cream on the inside. For me i bought the choc chunky ice cream..it tastes like the hazelnut ice cream. Remember the big fat ice cream on a stick?..well yeah, but it isnt' that fat. It's been a long time since i ate a stick ice cream, so that's why i went with them..haha..

So at night they had this health screening report and it was time to get my results back. It turned out well!!! I was very proud of my lifestyle profile. It's called Health Age. Well, it's based on the number of good health practices you currently follow. And of a max of 7, i had 6.
My age is 24 and based on those 6 practices, my health age is 20!!! Meaning my body feels like a 20yr old..hahhaa..but if i could get the 7th practice, my body, theoretically, would feel like a 17 yr old..hehe..and the last one that i missed out is because i was underweight..grr...i should be 64-85kg..unfortunately i took the test after 3 weeks of sickness so obviously my weight dropped otherwise i'll be in range already. Then the funny thing is that Shuqin's results were quite bad..she is 21 but her health age is 23..hahaa..oh my..she was so sad..but then we found out that because of work, she hasn't been getting enough sleep and not been exercising..that's why. Anyway, like i said, the results are based on one's current practices so it may not be accurate.

brain test

Your Brain Usage Profile:

Auditory : 38%
Visual : 61%
Left : 61%
Right : 38%

Sean, you are somewhat left-hemisphere dominant and show a preference for visual learning, although not extreme in either characteristic. You probably tend to do most things in moderation, but not always.

Your left-hemisphere dominance implies that your learning style is organized and structured, detail oriented and logical. Your visual preference, though, has you seeking stimulation and multiple data. Such an outlook can overwhelm structure and logic and create an almost continuous state of uncertainty and agitation. You may well suffer a feeling of continually trying to "catch up" with yourself.

Your tendency to be organized and logical and attend to details is reasonably well-established which should afford you success regardless of your chosen field of endeavor. You can "size up" situations and take in information rapidly. However, you must then subject that data to being classified and organized which causes you to "lose touch" with the immediacy of the problem.

Your logical and methodical nature hamper you in this regard though in the long run it may work to your advantage since you "learn from experience" and can go through the process more rapidly on subsequent occasions.

You remain predominantly functional in your orientation and practical. Abstraction and theory are secondary to application. In keeping with this, you focus on details until they manifest themselves in a unique pattern and only then work with the "larger whole."

With regards to your career choices, you have a mentality that would be good as a scientist, coach, athlete, design consultant, or an engineering technician. You can "see where you want to go" and even be able to "tell yourself," but find that you are "fighting yourself" at the darndest times.

Well, i got this from here. Hmm...i felt like i didn't do the test as what i should be doing..nm

day 2 in class

Today is my 2nd day of school. There are only 8 of us in class and almost all of them are working in a company. I think i'm the only one who is not working along with another guy. So i guess i'm one of the youngest there. One of them is an sikh and he looked like he was 30+ with a ring on his 4th finger, so i guess he's married. So far he only attended half the session. Today he came in at 1pm and all of us were there already. He looked like he came from the office as he wore a white long sleeve shirt and black pants. And unfortunately, i realise that the class of 8 people are very quiet. The lecturer can go on none stop for 2 hours and no one would be asking any questions.

Well, just to let you know how gruelling the daily sessions are. We start at 9:30am and he lectures until 12pm then we go for lunch. The only times that we can have a break during this period is when we have a "5 minute practice lesson" and 1 lab which takes up about 20-30 mins. Other than that, he will lecture non-stop. We continue from 1:30pm with 2 labs and 2 practice sessions(usually) and he will go on until 5:30pm..amazing right? So all of us will be sitting there quietly listening and hardly anyone speaks up. Wah piang...actually it's not so bad when i'm in it but when you are an outsider and i tell you all this, you will say it's a huge torture. For one thing, the lecturer really knows his stuff and it's almost like he has the whole textbook in his brain. Also, he repeats most of what he says so we will get most of it in the end. So that's good lor....well, i guess i should expect this level of training as he's a Microsoft Certified Trainer.
For me, i have 3 exams for this whole course and it will take me about 2.5 months to complete it including the exams. After which i'll be a Microsoft Certified Application Developer.(MCAD)..well, can't wait for that to happen.hehe..coz i'll be much more confident in looking for a job.

Oh yes, one thing is that the textbook or course material rather, is HUGE. I showed it to my mom yesterday and she was impressed at it. But when i told her that it's only meant for this week, she got a shock..hahaha...hmm..i'll post a picture of the material soon. Meanwhile, i need to do some work.
