Airless Tyre by Michelin
Ok i thought i better post something while i'm in the office with a keyboard with all working keys.
Basically my week was quite exciting. Exciting can be good or bad. In this case it's more towards the bad coz it made me quite stressed. But thank God that it's only a few days i got stressed up. Come to think of it, i learnt alot this week too. One of my colleagues is leaving today and that means there's going to be one less person here. Guess the boss won't be hiring a replacement but anyway, i hope everything will go well after he leaves. Anyway, don't know what else to type.ciao..

SDA Baptismal Vows

I'm preparing the discipleship program and was wondering what were the baptismal vows. When i was baptised, i don't remember reading these vows myself. It's interesting to read them and to know what it says. Think i gotta tell Andrew before he's immeersed.

Seventh-day Adventists do not believe in baptizing infants. A person must be old enough to accept responsibility for his/her own actions. Baptism is by immersion. In order to be baptized, a person must agree to this set of thirteen baptismal vows.
1. I believe in God the Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit.
2. I accept the death of Jesus Christ on Calvary as the atoning sacrifice for my sins, and believe that through faith in His shed blood I am saved from sin and its penalty.
3. I renounce the world and its sinful ways, and have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, and believe that God, for Christ's sake, has forgiven my sins and given me a new heart.
4. I accept by faith the righteousness of Christ, recognizing Him as my Intercessor in the heavenly sanctuary, and claim His promise to strengthen me by His indwelling Sprit, so that I may receive power to do His will.
5. I believe that the Bible is God's inspired Word, and that it constitutes the only rule of faith and practice for the Christian.
6. I accept the 10 Commandments
7. Ten Commandments as still binding upon Christians; and it is my purpose by the power of the indwelling Christ, to keep this law, including the fourth commandment, which requires the observance of the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath of the Lord.
8. I look forward to the soon coming of Jesus as the blessed hope in my heart, and I am determined to be ready to meet the Lord, and to do all in my power to witness to His loving salvation, and by life and word to help others to be ready for His glorious appearing.
9. I accept the Biblical teaching of spiritual gifts, and believe that the gift of prophecy is one of the identifying marks of the remnant church.
10. I believe in church organization, and it is my purpose to support the church by my tithes and offerings, and by my personal effort and influence.
11. I believe that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and I will honor God by caring for it, avoiding the use of that which is harmful, abstaining from all unclean foods, from the use, manufacture, or sale of alcoholic beverages, the use, manufacture, or sale of tobacco in any of its forms for human consumption, and from the misuse of or trafficking in, narcotics or other drugs.
12. I know and understand the fundamental Bible principles as taught by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is my purpose, by the grace of God, to order my life in harmony with these principles.
13. I accept the New Testament teaching of baptism by immersion, and desire to be so baptized as a public expression of faith in Christ and His forgiveness of my sins.
14. I accept that the Seventh-Day Church is the Remnant Church of Bible prophecy, and that people of every nation, race, and language are invited and accepted into its fellowship. I desire to be a member in this local congregation of the world church.

bad mothers

I was watching the 7pm show on Channel 8 just now and i felt kinda disgusted at what happened. I don't know all the names but i'll try. Dayang went to hospital and is madly in love with baobei. At the same time baobei had a bad experience with her soon-to-be-husband. His mom and the family are concerned over Dayang and thinks that the only way is to have baobei marry him. After a family discussion, they decided for the sake of Dayang, to deceive baobei into marrying him by saying that he has a terminal illness and that what he needs is to be happy for the last days of his life. I can't believe they went ahead and the mom and daughter-in-law went to her house and told her that. The mom even said that "i know it's unfair to you, but please consider it for my sake as a mother." That statement was just soooo selfish!!! I felt like giving her a @#$*@*$(($. Yes, in life there are very selfish mothers around so beware!! I just can't believe that these mothers for the sake of their own son/daughter would deceive another mother's son/daugher. This is just too much. Yes, i despise such attitude.
At this point, baobei was shocked as she never thought about marrying Dayang. She cares for him deeply but not to the point of marrying him! So the daughter-in-law who is so good at deceiving people, asks her another time to make the decision fast. At home, baobei can't decide what to do. And i felt like shouting to her not to give in to others coz it's her own life and happiness and that no one else should influence her so much. She even said "If i'll get a dog, i'll marry him". She has this machine which dispenses small gifts, so she drew out the first one and found it wasn't a dog. She thought this doesn't count so she kept drawing the others out and she kept doing it until finally she found one of them is a dog. Oh my, another stupid mistake. She didn't keep to her word. Why did she have to keep trying until she got a toy dog??Did she really want to marry him?? Anyway this does tell us also that sometimes we pray to/test God and when the answer isn't what we want, we doubt that he has answered us and test him again until finally we get the answer we want but it shouldn't be counted already.

peanuts!

just did my exercise as usual. Now waiting for the water to boil. was busting my triceps back there. Hope i can put on some mass on my arms. Found out that i'm almost at 67kg. If that's the case then i would have gained 3 kg in total. I hope that i'll continue gaining weight and not just stop before i reach my target.

While i was heading home with my mom, she couldn't stop laughing over what mrs goh chok tong said about NKF's ex CEO. Peanuts! Yup, i realise that has been the hot topic the past week. When i first read that statement in the straits times, i knew something big was going to happen. Firstly, i knew that that would be the quote of the week in the sunday times. But i think they didn't put it there for political reasons. My colleagues were joking about it through msn and my mom's cell group was having a laugh over it. The thing is, it came from someone with authority. If i were to tell of someone else's salary as peanuts, i wouldn't get such a big response from people. It's because Mrs Goh is a respected(supposed to be) person and of high position that's why ppl start to take notice and suddenly you see all the jokes revolving about her one statement she made. Well, the good thing is, at least people had 1 week of laughter this year, at her expense. :)

Young and Dangerous

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student,
pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has
a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to
be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and
roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and 155mm howizzitor. He is 10 or
15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working
or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk.

He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field
strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can
recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and
use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and latrines and can
apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop or
stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without
spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of
fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens
full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but
never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own
clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water
with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition
with you in the midst of battle when you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like
they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that
is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the
pay and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering
and death then he should have in his short lifetime.

He has stood atop mountains of dead bodies, and helped to create them.
He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat
and is unashamed. He feels every note of the Na tional Anthem vibrate
through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning
desire to 'square-away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand,
remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out,
far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful..

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying
the price for our freedo Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the
American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding.
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration
with his blood. And we have woman over there in danger,
doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls
us to do so. As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot.. A short lull,
a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.......

So many changes!!

There are just so many things on my mind right now that is begging me to give attention to. So i thought i'll just use this post to unload everything. I need to find a php script for the youth member database. Need to create the library system. Need to find an image gallery for the jurong site. Need to get bigger. Oh yes, about the last part, yesterday i felt heavier again as i was walking up the stairs. Yes, why is it only when i'm walking up the stairs do i feel the difference? That's coz the difference is more evident as you push yourself up. duh..ok anyway i seem to have gained 1 more kg but i'm taking it slow and steady. So many things to do and so many changes and only 1 me!!! ahhhhhh!!!!

Prandtl-Glauert Condensation

ok i thought i'll just answer joyce's qn on "how does breaking the sound barrier create that effect?"

Firstly i got my answers from here

And i found out some interesting stuff. Sonic boom occurs when an aircraft or some other object flies above the speed of sound. So a subsonic object can't produce a sonic boom. For a subsonic object, the sound would gradually increase as the object flies closer to us. I've drawn something to illustrate.

For a supersonic object, what happens is since the object is moving faster than the sound of itself, a person outside won't be able to hear the sound gradually increasing as it flies towards him. What the person would hear is a collective sound blast, or a sonic boom.

Ok that's for sonic boom and i haven't answered her question yet but i thought that's interesting so i shared it.

Those clouds that form around the plane is called the Prandtl-Glauert Condensation Clouds. I don't really care how that name came about but basically, it occurs all because of condensation. Air around the body of the plane cools down at a very low temperature and so condensing the ambient water vapour, thus resulting in those clouds. Also, this doesn't happen at the point when it breaks the sound barrier, which i initially believed. It happens rather, at near sonic speeds dependent on the current temperature and pressure too.
You can see a video of it here.

In that video, you notice this order. Cloud forms, disappears, reappears. This is explained by the fact that the pilot has slowed down the speed of the aircraft and then increased it again.

i've never had a fascination for rings, but this is different! The gold one costs more than US$200 and the silver one US$45. I may get the silver one one day. Maybe next year.

When i got back from work i stood on the weighing machine and realised that i've gained 1 kg!!!!!!! YIPPIEEE!!!!! 1 more down, 18 more to go.

Excerpts from Dr Bacc's latest newsletter

I read some of this from Dr Bacchiocchi's latest newsletter - "Reflections on the 58th General Conference Session"

To be an Advent-oriented Christian means first of all to live with a forward look. Some people look back longingly to some past Golden Age. Others look with satisfaction to their present attainments or condition. By contrast, the Advent believer lives looking forward to the future New Age to be inaugurated at the Second Advent. Peter urges this forward look, saying: "Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Pet 1:13).

Agree totally. It's only when i look forward then i have hope. Looking in your present condition sometimes can be depressing especially when we are down and out or even longing for something better. That's why looking forward to a better home and world is hopeful to people who are stuck with living a life of poverty. As for me personally, i do look forward to a better world too. Also, if you know that one day u'll be earning 5k a month boy will you feel good today, which i am..hahhaaa...okok enough about the 5k a month thing.

Of all the commandments, the Sabbath offers us the most concrete opportunity to show our love to God because it invites us to consecrate our time to Him. Time is the essence of our life. The way we use our time is indicative of our priorities.

I've never looked at it this way, that dedicating time for the Sabbath is reflective of one's priorities. In fact, it applies to other areas too. Like when you ask a friend to lunch with you and he says he's not free. What he's essentially saying is "I'm sorry but you're just not worth my time. I have a gazillion more important things to do than to go have lunch with you." Ok that's extreme, ppl don't think like that most of the time unless he hates you but you know what i mean.

Believers who on the Sabbath stop their work to allow God to work in them more fully and freely, show in a tangible way that God really counts in their lives. They make themselves receptive and responsive to the presence, peace, and rest of God.

I do believe that not only do you dedicate time for the Sabbath, but also dedicate effort to experience that rest and obtain its blessings thru allowing ourselves to be receptive and responsive to the presence of God. One example is we should not only bring our bodies to church but also to have an active mind opened to God while we are there.

This is what i call a mushroom cloud

frugality is a virtue

i wondered today what if i'm richer, would i still be frugal with my money? There are certain instances that i would feel like just paying for it since i can afford it, not because it's cheap. One example is food. I realise that ever since i got my first pay check, i felt like i could afford anything in the world. So even for food, i don't give another thought about forking out the cash. What i dread about this is if i get richer and buy bigger ticket items, would i still have this attitude? Hopefully not because like they say, a little here and there all adds up. Additionally, we're supposed to, as christians, take care of ourselves and our finances wisely and not splurge your money without allowing the thought of paying such and such amount pass through the brain. IOW, we shouldn't let our hands do the talking. We should still use our brains when we pay for goods. I'll have to train myself to do that from now on coz then only can i get my nice car faster and enjoy a better life quicker.

Garden State

Yesterday i went to Faith's house for lunch and after that to watch a movie at her place. Christon, Jeff, Gary and Shuqin went too. They prepared meditteranean food(ok i can't remember the names) with a whole chicken. After that we decided to watch the movie "Garden State". Faith has a very cozy tv room with a very good sound system so if you want to watch movies, just bring it to.....okok..hehhe.

Anyway the movie was very good. I confess, i didn't get the whole meaning of the movie until faith explained it to me. I thought the ending was abrupt and that it had shortchanged me. But it wasn't after thinking about it. It's one of the few movies i've watched which relates very well to 20-somethings. A movie about life and love albeit the small cast.

=====Spoilers=========
Largeman has been taking anti-depressents to help him get through the traumatic experience he had while he was younger. He was responsible for his mom's paralysis and so grew up very much impacted by that incident. Although he wasn't depressed per se, yet his life was numb. He was removed from the emotional side of him and thus couldn't find meaning in life until Sam(natalie portman) came to his life. Even when he flew back to attend his mom's funeral, he just couldn't connect with his emotional side. I grew to like Sam's character as i watched as this girl knew how to live life truly - to take things as it is and to enjoy the small things. Her simplicity influenced Largman in a big way and that helped him get back on track to living his own life. The last part was very insightful too as it tells us that no matter what you do and which path you go, it involves small risks. It's tempting to be too comfortable, as in Largeman's case, not getting into a relationship. But true excitement and meaning in life comes when he commits himself to take the leap of faith - to tread places where he can't forsee the next few steps. We tend to put our faith in material stuff like a job, education and the like because we can see the next few steps already. But it's about taking the risk with someone else and to allow yourself to be changed as a result - changed to someone whom you can't forsee and ruffling a few feathers. I'll like to extend the idea that it's all about relationships with people that changes you, not just your relationship with your bf/gf/spouse(although this is a much bigger risk)

Sure you have a good job, a good education and you're rich, but the movie asks you this question - so what?

London Attacked

"London got attacked. Read your news website. Pray" Boon Leong sent me an sms while i was on my way home. Is that all he can say? Where are the details?!?!!?!! Was it an attack to the scale of 9-11? How big was it? I was in suspense!! I replied with "What happened??" And i didn't get a reply after that...grrr...

Luckily i didn't have to wait long. After dropping off the mrt and getting on the bus, it was on TV Mobile. Ok it wasn't a big attack but still there were dozens of casualties.

"At least seven near-simultaneous explosions rocked London, crippling its Underground network and blowing open a double-decker bus "like a can of sardines".

Within 24 hours after they won the bid for Olympics 2012 did this attacks take place. This is my postulation. I believe that the terrorists had it all planned out. No matter who won the bid, they were stationed to bomb the respective country. They had their bombs in place and were ready to push the button once they had to command. The countries who lost the bid (Paris, Moscow, Madrid, New York) were lucky if this were true. Probably the terrorists in the various countries are now busy disarming the bombs placed in those countries. It's a small price to pay for getting the winning bid which will boost the economy tremendoesly.

nonsensical post

He usually comes in after lunch, knocking at the window of my mind.

He: "Sean...."
Me: "Yeeeess??"
He: "You are feeling sleeeeeeeepy"
Me: "I am??no i'm not!"
He: "Yes you areeeee"
Me: "No....you can't win me, i'll fight you to the death"
He: "You can't win me Sean"
Me: "yes i can.."

My eyelids start feeling heavy
Suddenly i feel my mind detached from my mouse movements. Periods of consciousness make me question my present activity. The temptation to sink into the 3rd dimension is so alluring. Sitting in front of my computer screen with only my right hand moving makes it worse. I lapse into split seconds of disconnection. And suddenly the feeling becomes too overwhelming.....the Z monster is just too powerful...zzzzzz

Got home after work and logged on to the internet. Felt lost. This is the first time i felt lost and empty. Merv asked me whether i felt like crying. No i don't. It's just the feeling of being lost and not sure what's next in life. As if life has slipped out of your hands and you're no longer in control of it??? No longer having the confidence i once had???But i think most accurately it's like as if i have everything in the world that money can buy but yet i don't have happiness. Well,I hope i'll get over it soon and i hope that if i really have everything that money can buy, i wouldn't feel this way. I gotta get out of this situation fast...basically i want my life back, and better!!
hey guys, seems like there's something wrong with my shoutbox. If you want to tag, u will have to type your message, click send, and then if it doesn't appear, refresh the page. It should turn up.
Hope they will fix this soon.
This morning while i was walking to work i was thinking,"So what if i earned 5k/month? Will i be happy?" I am scared of the thought that even if i earned that much, i wouldn't be happy. I guess only God can give me true happiness.

What i would do if i earn 5k/month

I'm just wondering what i would do if i were to earn 5k a month in let's say, a year's time over 5 yrs.

- Get a car
It's so difficult to choose the car that is within your financial capability. I also struggle with not over-splurging when the money can be used somewhere else like the church. I know a person who wanted to get a Mercedes because he could afford it but his wife told him if he gets one, then he has to donate that same amount of money to the church. He felt it would be painful and in the end he didn't get the Mercedes. So i guess i would struggle with this. On the one hand, I want to know that i have done my best to contribute to the building of the church since i have that earning power. Yet, i'm tempted to use the cash on myself. Since 5k/month doesn't realy make one super rich, i'm forced to walk on a tightrope. Therein lies the test of my balancing skills.
But that aside, i've checked out some of the makes and models of the car i have went through. This is the list:
-Jaguar XK8 Convertible. Price: $400k. Too expensive. Although it's a sexy looking car, i should put that money to some other worthy cause. So this choice is scrapped.
-BMW 645Ci Cabriolet. Price: $368k. Ahh..my dream BMW car and it has to be this expensive.
-BMW Z4.Price: $200k. Cool car. Just that i don't like how small it looks. I'll look like i'm driving a toy car. So this is out.
-BMW 318Ci Convertible. Price: $189k. The cheapest BMW convertible. But it doesn't look sleek enough.
-Mazda RX8. Price: $140k. This car has looks. Nevermind it's small engine capacity of 1.3k, it's 0-100kmh is 7.1 seconds! It's fuel consumption is 12.2 litres/100km for automatic. That's reasonable for a sports car. My dad's toyota corolla is about 8 litres/100km. Shortlisted.
-Peugeot 607.Price: $150k. One of the more attractive sedans. It's a French brand and it's more expensive than other competitors like the Camry.
-Toyota Camry 2.0. Price: $106k. Oh my, why am i looking at family cars..ahhhh..anyway this is a good and cheap car.
-Toyota Vios. Price $69k. Cheap car. The little brother of the Corolla. Unfortunately it has the look of a Corolla too - fat.
-Peugeot 206 1.6. Price: $83k. This was the car that my dad almost bought. Because we saw the Corolla to be more value for money and spacious that's why we skipped this. He said during the test drive, this car is extremely stable at speeds of 140kmh with 4 passengers inside. Shortlisted.
-Nissan 350z automatic.Price: $147k. Fuel consumption is reasonable too. But somehow it's not attractive enough for me.

Well these are the cars i went through while browsing around. Not so varied options IMO. However, i realise there are more options with second hand cars like the Toyota Celica(~75k) and Toyota MRS (~70k). If only it's possible to import the Dodge Viper or the Mustang Convertible...drools.
Right now the only choices are the Mazda RX8, Peugeot 206 or a second hand car..nvm..thank God i don't have to make a choice now. I'll see a few years later. Hopefully the car market will come up with better looking cars.

Ok i think this has taken some time, so i'll stop here.
Ok, i've worked out my budget for these few months:

32.5% - Savings
6% - Telephone + Internet Bills
3% - EZlink
12% - Food (Can't believe i need so much for food)
26% - Loan Repayment (Borrowed some money from my friendly loan shark..hehe)
20.5% - Miscellaneous

This whole week i've been listening to blues guitar music through live365.com. To me, blues is very very uplifting. I'm not talking about slow blues but more of electric blues guitar. It just makes me want to pick up my guitar which i have forsaken for months and start learning blues. Also, those prodigies really inspire me to do so too. Hmm...i might consider picking up my guitar again if i can't take it anymore..haha..

I found a possible way to have financial freedom quick. Like maybe within 2 or 3 yrs. But i won't tell anyone yet..don't worry it's not illegal..the future just seems so exciting for me. I'm looking forward to unleash more of my hidden personalities of being suave, smart and oozing loads of sex appeal. Look out people! oh yeah, scripture memory is a must if you want to do anything "powerful". This week i've been memorizing scripture and it sure makes me feel so much more powerful. The more i do it the more powerful i become..muahahahhaha!!!
