Excerpts from Dr Bacc's latest newsletter

I read some of this from Dr Bacchiocchi's latest newsletter - "Reflections on the 58th General Conference Session"

To be an Advent-oriented Christian means first of all to live with a forward look. Some people look back longingly to some past Golden Age. Others look with satisfaction to their present attainments or condition. By contrast, the Advent believer lives looking forward to the future New Age to be inaugurated at the Second Advent. Peter urges this forward look, saying: "Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1 Pet 1:13).

Agree totally. It's only when i look forward then i have hope. Looking in your present condition sometimes can be depressing especially when we are down and out or even longing for something better. That's why looking forward to a better home and world is hopeful to people who are stuck with living a life of poverty. As for me personally, i do look forward to a better world too. Also, if you know that one day u'll be earning 5k a month boy will you feel good today, which i am..hahhaaa...okok enough about the 5k a month thing.

Of all the commandments, the Sabbath offers us the most concrete opportunity to show our love to God because it invites us to consecrate our time to Him. Time is the essence of our life. The way we use our time is indicative of our priorities.

I've never looked at it this way, that dedicating time for the Sabbath is reflective of one's priorities. In fact, it applies to other areas too. Like when you ask a friend to lunch with you and he says he's not free. What he's essentially saying is "I'm sorry but you're just not worth my time. I have a gazillion more important things to do than to go have lunch with you." Ok that's extreme, ppl don't think like that most of the time unless he hates you but you know what i mean.

Believers who on the Sabbath stop their work to allow God to work in them more fully and freely, show in a tangible way that God really counts in their lives. They make themselves receptive and responsive to the presence, peace, and rest of God.

I do believe that not only do you dedicate time for the Sabbath, but also dedicate effort to experience that rest and obtain its blessings thru allowing ourselves to be receptive and responsive to the presence of God. One example is we should not only bring our bodies to church but also to have an active mind opened to God while we are there.
