library, websites

//Warning: This post is looooooooong

Today was a productive day for me..i managed to finish all of the modifications required for the YWC website and also to fix a bug for the sermon upload of the jurong website...yes the jurong website is still in the works..sigh.my plan for this week is

1) The YWC project. Well just to explain. I'm doing a web development project for YWC. Firstly, i have to create an online form for people to register for health screening and people can choose the dates they can go for screening. The trick is to limit the amount of people that can go on each date. So the webpage has to do that automatically. Anyway, this is finished.
Secondly, setting up an online questionnaire for people to fill up instead of filling it on hardcopy..This saves paper. I've completed this already.
Lastly, i have to come up with various reports based on the questionairre answers. I haven't started on this yet and will probably start tomorrow.

2) The SAUM website. Someone asked me to create a page so that she can add, edit and archive news and events. Also, her husband (who also works in the union) knows abit about web development so she suggested i meet up with him or something to tell him how to edit the webpages himself. Well, currently the website has old information except for the news section now so it'll be great if someone else can do it. I hope that i'll be relieved off this responsibility too since i'll be getting a real job soon.

3) The Jurong Church website. It's mainly done but i'll have to add photos and a banner and some Q&A to complete the whole thing. The link is for the current one now and it was done by seow leng many years ago. I shall not reveal the location of the new website yet...hehe.

4) The ASCO website. The ASF(Adventist Students' Fellowship) committee met up yesterday and suggested to spruce up the site. Primarily is to make the forums active by having about 6 dedicated people going there and posting everyday for the next 6 months. I think it's a tall order but we'll see.haha..but anyway, there is not much to be done for this website...yet.

5) Come up with various posts of each librarian. (read on)

Hmm..basically i've listed all the 4 websites i'm currently maintaining....and before i get a job, i plan to hand over the SAUM website to Jeffrey or that guy from the union office. Also, the Jurong website should be done already and it only requires little maintainance. The ASCO website is done already too and i may hand it over to someone else. And last but not least, the YWC project would be finished but i'll be required to do minor modifications each month.

What i've learnt, as i reiterate now, is that if you have too many balls, it's tough to juggle them properly. This lesson i learnt from having 4 websites...haha..so you can say i learnt from the school of hard knocks.

Ok, the next thing is. I have 2 new librarians!!!!! They are Sheng Ming and Andrew!!!! Now how did i get them to be librarians?? I told Andrew that he should start serving in church in some way and so i suggested a list of ministries. Interestingly, he picked to be a librarian..hehe. And for Sheng Ming (btw, he's just started studying in NTU), he wanted to be a member of the library to borrow books on saturday. So i asked him, why not be a librarian instead so you don't have to pay the membership fee?hahaa...oh well, i told him that he should be more involved in church and so had to talk him into being a librarian ...hahhaha..oh well, hope everything goes well. So now i have 7 librarians including me. They are: Me, Andrew, Sheng Ming, Barbara, June, Tricia and Aggie. I'm glad i have hardworking and dedicated librarians who are willing to help out in the library at the last minute and now there will be 2 more. With this 2 more, i plan to settle the problems that i see in the library(of which the current librarians don't see). Well, i also had a revelation about why the problems still exist. It's because i micromanage!!What i should have done was to assign people different tasks and let them settle it themselves and report back to me. grr...i wish i had known this earlier...but i guess i didn't have the managaement skills to quickly solve the problem last time that's why. I think i got the revelation after watching the swearing in ceremony of the ministers of singapore last week. As some of you know, there is now a new position called Minister Mentor where Lee Kwan Yew holds now...so i'm going to come up with some new positions in the library too..hehee....so exciting.
