killer waves

I find it interesting to read reports of how singapore is helping out in melabou. So almost everyday whenever i read in the newspapers, it somehow brings a sense of achievement when i see each success and progress. Singapore's PM has been proactive in the relief efforts. After all, he was the one who initiated a global conference. And for the killer waves, i'm still amazed at how much devastation it created. With a mere movement at the fault lines, it caused such killer waves that wiped out homes and everything in its path for i heard 5 km inland. Now how is that possible? A closer to home analogy would be when washing the outside corridor. A splash of water and everything including dust,sand and debris would be washed into the drain. The "wave" didn't need to be very high, but it was strong enough to push them all to the drain. The same thing happened for the killer waves. I read that it had a very long wavelength and that implied it had alot of force. It could have been likened to being hit by a wall. And so when a wall collides with another wall, they both fall apart. And when a wall of water hits a car, it carries it further inland. Oh well, enough about waves.
