The 2 laws

Today was another night of the LIFE AFTER LIFE seminar. So far having faithfully attending all the nights, i find his meetings very insightful. I get to learn things i don't know. Like for the word "law" in the bible, he mentioned that whenever we read that word, we must ask ourselves what law is it referring to because it's used in a generic way. There are 2 laws mentioned in the bible, the ceremonial law with the sanctuary service and sacrifices and practices, and the 10 commandment law which God wrote with his own finger. He didn't even trust Moses to write it down. But he trusted Moses to write the ceremonial law. So with this understanding in mind, whenever i read the new testament and encounter some texts like Col 2:14-17 or Romans 6:14,15 or whatever texts non-sabbath keepers quotes, i know how better to answer them. Firstly we need to know which law it's talking about. And i was asking Geoff after the seminar, how about the sacrifices that were practised even before Moses' time because they had to sacrifice a lamb and it started from Adam. He said that what Moses got was a more formal proclamation of the sacrifices. And at this point, God also added to it the various feast days too. Come to think of it, the 10 commandments are also treated likewise. As in they have been in existence since the beginning before sin came in and were formally proclamed on Mount Sinai. Ok to illustrate with my own points..

Before Sinai

Moral law
Before sin, informal commandments were in place. Because without sin there is no law. So when satan sinned, it implied there was a law for him to break in the first place.

Ceremonial law
"It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come."(Gal 3:19) It existed AFTER sin came since Adam's day(sacrifice of the lamb on the altar) and is to last until Christ's death. That's when the curtain was split in two.(Matt 27:51).

At Sinai

Moral law now called the 10 commandments
Formal declaration of moral law into 10 precepts. God wrote with His own hand. Added to it were commandments to honor your parents.

Ceremonial law now called the Mosaic law
Formal declaration of the ceremonial law. God entrusted Moses to write it. Added were the feast days and other ordinances.

After first coming

10 commandments still in effect and are to last until Christ comes the 2nd time.
Mosaic law no longer in effect as it was to point to Christ' first advent.
